Summer of Love
Yesterday I spent the day in the city to celebrate my birthday with my uncle who is visiting me from New York. One of the stops we made was
Golden Gate Park to visit the Summer of Love Exhibit at the
de Young Museum. The exhibit was one of my favorite exhibits I have seen at the de Young, apart from the Oscar de la Renta fashion exhibit the museum showcased last year. Though, in all honesty, I have never been disappointed with any of the exhibits presented at the de Young. If you are planning on going to the Summer of Love Experience Exhibit, just remember that the exhibit is only going on until August 20th.
The exhibit was all about the art, fashion, music, and culture in San Francisco in the historic 1960's, or "hippie" era. I fell in love with the brightly-colored poster art, buttons, and fashion in the exhibit. The art and music was presented in a historical context, which made the exhibit even more interesting, as the '60's were filled with social unrest with the occurrences of the Vietnam War, Civil Rights Movements, etc.
If you're bored on a hot summer's day and you're trying to escape the hear, I definitely recommend making the trip to see this exhibit with your family, friends, or SO. I spent about an hour and a half going through the exhibit, but you could definitely stay for a shorter/longer amount of time if you wanted. And after you're done looking through the exhibit, you have the rest of Golden Gate Park to explore! You definitely won't get bored, trust me.
Some attractions near the de Young Museum include the Academy of Sciences, the Japanese Tea Garden, the Chinese Pavilion, and the Rose Garden. Also, there is a line of food trucks nearby if you feel the need to take a break and have a snack.
